    Chief Mediator asks Darfur non-signatory movements to explore ways forward for the peace process
    09 Dec 2013 - Addis Ababa, 9 December 2013 – The African Union-United Nations Joint Chief Mediator for Darfur, Dr. Mohamed Ibn Chambas, has strongly urged the Darfur non-signatory movements to explore ways to move the peace process forward, stating that the only way to end the conflict in Darfur is through a peaceful and negotiated settlement.

    09 Dec 2013 - More than 20 members of the Justice and Equality Movement-Sudan (JEM/Bashar) are participating this week at a 5-day workshop on the Doha Document for Peace in Darfur (DDPD), sponsored by the African Union-United Nations Mission in Darfur (UNAMID) in Khartoum.

    UNAMID Head praises East Darfur tribal reconciliation efforts
    03 Dec 2013 - El Daein, 3 December 2013 - The AU- UN Joint Special Representative (JSR), Mohamed Ibn Chambas, concluded on 3 December a two-day visit to El Daein, East Darfur, where he congratulated the State authorities and the traditional leaders for their work toward a peaceful solution to the conflict between the Rezeigat and the Ma’aliya following violent clashes in August 2013.
  • UNAMID and Sudanese Police strengthen cooperation
    27 Nov 2013 - On 27 November 2013, the African Union-United Nations Mission in Darfur (UNAMID) and the Government of Sudan (GoS) police held a strategic workshop in Khartoum on the memorandum of understanding they signed in August 2013. The event, which was aimed at strengthening cooperation, was attended by some 100 police officers from both institutions including GoS police directors-general from the five states of Darfur.

  • UNAMID convoy attacked in North Darfur, one peacekeeper killed
    25 Nov 2013 - El Fasher, 25 November 2013 – An African Union- United Nations Mission in Darfur (UNAMID) convoy came under attack by unknown armed people on the road from Kabkabiya to Saraf Umra in North Darfur on 24 November. One soldier from Rwanda, who was shot during the assault, succumbed to his injuries later in the Mission’s hospital in Kabkabiya. One of the UNAMID vehicles was hijacked by the attackers.

    24 Nov 2013 - Labado, 24 November 2013 – Thousands of internally displaced persons (IDPs) have been receiving protection and health care from African Union-United Nations Mission in Darfur (UNAMID) since April 2013, when fighting between Government of Sudan troops and an armed movement forced them to flee their homes in Labado, East Darfur.

    21 Nov 2013 - Khartoum, 21 November 2013 – Resolving land issues in Darfur, the impact of land- use on sustainable development and proper planning were the focus of a conference on the role of the Darfur Land Commission in relation to managing land and natural resources which took place in Khartoum on 20 November.
