    15 Oct 2013 - On 15 October 2013, UNAMID Joint Special Representative (JSR) Mohamed Ibn Chambas visited the Mission's regional headquarters in El Geneina, West Darfur, following the ambush of a Senegalese formed police unit on 13 October which led to the death of three UNAMID peacekeepers.
  • 14 Oct 2013 - On behalf of the African Union-United Nations Mission in Darfur, I wish the people and the Government of Sudan a peaceful and joyous Eid Al-Adha. As we commemorate this occasion, we should all remember the message of peace and sacrifice that this occasion symbolises. The road to achieving peace is fraught with hurdles, hardships, tests and sacrifice. It is only when we have the will and the resolve that we are able to achieve this condition, to which we all aspire.
  • 14 Oct 2013 - In the morning of 13 October 2013 a UNAMID Formed Police Unit detail escorting a water convoy from El Geneina town to the UNAMID regional headquarters in West Darfur was ambushed by an unidentified armed group. Three Senegalese peacekeepers were killed and one injured. The assailants hijacked one vehicle, which was later recovered 7 kilometers from the scene.
  • 13 Oct 2013 - A UNAMID Military Observer from the Republic of Zambia died on 11 October in El Fasher, North Darfur, following an attack by armed men who stabbed him and hijacked his vehicle. The incident occurred in the afternoon when the officer was parking a mission vehicle in his private accommodation. The victim was immediately transferred to a UNAMID medical facility where he passed away later the same day.

    09 Oct 2013 - On 8 October 2013, the African Union-United Nations Mission in Darfur (UNAMID) brought together in El Fasher about 40 women representatives of civil society organizations from North Darfur to a workshop to deliberate on the implementation of provisions of the Doha Document for Peace in Darfur (DDPD) which relate to women.

  • 02 Oct 2013 - More than 100 Darfuri tribal leaders from all tribes in North Darfur and the native administrations participated in a two–day conference to discuss the root causes of tribal conflicts in Darfur and to propose possible solutions for sustainable peaceful coexistence in the region. The conference, sponsored by the United Nations-African Union Mission in Darfur (UNAMID), took place in El Fasher, North Darfur, and concluded on 1 October.
  • 01 Oct 2013 - A UNAMID Police Advisor from Sierra Leone who was seriously injured on 13 July when a patrol came under attack in Khor Abeche, South Darfur, died in the hospital on 30 September.  The incident took place approximately 25 kilometers west of the Mission's Khor Abeche team site and resulted on the killing of seven UNAMID military peacekeepers from Tanzania, in addition of the injury of 17 military and Police personnel.
  • 30 Sep 2013 -   Early recovery, reconstruction and development needs of Darfur; concerns over insecurity in parts of the region; and UNAMID’s access to areas most affected by conflict were the primary focus of discussions of the 16th meeting of the Tripartite Coordination Mechanism on UNAMID. The forum was held on Saturday 28 September 2013 at the UN headquarters in New York, on the margins of the General Assembly.
