  • 29 Sep 2013 - On the morning of 29 September 2013, a UNAMID helicopter developed a technical fault while on a flight from Zalingei to Nertiti, in Central Darfur, soon after taking off. The pilot turned back to Zalingei helipad and during the emergency landing the aircraft crashed and was badly damaged. All 19 passengers and 4 crew were immediately and safely evacuated off the helicopter.

    25 Sep 2013 - Doha, 25 September 2013 – The African Union and United Nations Joint Special Representative (JSR) and Joint Chief Mediator (JCM) for Darfur, Mohamed Ibn Chambas, attended the sixth meeting of the Doha Document for Peace in Darfur (DDPD) Implementation Follow-up Commission (IFC) which took place in Doha, Qatar, on 23 September.

    24 Sep 2013 - On 23 September, hundreds of people converged on the Al Zubair Stadium in El Fasher, North Darfur, to participate in the launch of the "We Need Peace Now" campaign, organized by the African Union-United Nations Mission in Darfur (UNAMID) and the National Sudanese Youth Union to support the peace process in Darfur. The event, which also served to commemorate the International Day of Peace, included a parade in the city centre, traditional performances and a musical concert.

    23 Sep 2013 - 23 September 2013 - The African Union-United Nations Mission in Darfur (UNAMID) has funded through the Mission’s quick-impact project program (QIP) a series of projects designed to improve the South Darfur state's health care facilities.
  • 17 Sep 2013 - The International Day of Peace is a time for reflection – a day when we reiterate our belief in non-violence and call for a global ceasefire.  We ask people everywhere to observe a minute of silence, at noon local time, to honour those killed in conflict and the survivors who live with daily trauma and pain.

    07 Sep 2013 - El Fasher, 6 September 2013 – Enhancing support to the Darfur Regional Authority (DRA) and progress made towards the implementation of the Darfur Development Strategy were among the many issues discussed on 5 September at a coordination meeting between the United Nations Country Team (UNCT) and the African Union - United Nations Mission in Darfur (UNAMID).
  • 06 Sep 2013 - 8 September 2013 - More than 773 million young people and adults around the world cannot read this message.  They are among the ranks of our fellow citizens who have not yet gained full literacy skills.  They may not be able to fill out a job application, decipher a bus timetable or read a story aloud to their children.  Two out of three are women who are denied this essential ingredient to full participation in society.
  • 27 Aug 2013 - The AU-UN Joint Chief Mediator and Joint Special Representative of UNAMID, Dr. Mohamed Ibn Chambas held consultations with the delegations of the Justice and Equality Movement (JEM) and the Sudan Liberation Movement/Minni Minawi (SLA/MM) in Arusha, Tanzania from 22-27 August, 2013. The delegations of the Movements were led by Mr. Arko Minni Minawi for the SLA/MM and Dr. Gibril Ibrahim for the JEM.
