12 Jan 2011 - 11 January 2011 - During a visit today to Nyala, South Darfur, the Chairman of the UN Secretary-General’s Panel on the Referendum in South Sudan, and former President of the Republic of Tanzania, Mr. Benjamin Mkapa, expressed his satisfaction with the peaceful conduct of the referendum. He expressed hope that the outcome would be accepted by all.

11 Jan 2011 -10 January 2011 - A UNAMID patrol to Tabit village, 37 kilometres northwest of Shangil Tobaya, North Darfur, reported exchanges of fire occurred on 7 January between government forces and SLA-Minni Minnawi in which three people are believed to have been killed. The Mission continues to investigate.

11 Jan 2011 -10 January 2011 - UNAMID Joint Special Representative (JSR) Ibrahim Gambari was today in Nyala and Khor Abeche, South Darfur, for meetings with local authorities, internally displaced persons (IDP), and Mission staff. In Nyala, the JSR met with the Wali (Governor) of South Darfur and conducted a town hall meeting at the Mission’s regional headquarters.

11 Jan 2011 -11 January 2011 - A 4 January joint humanitarian assessment mission to Shangil Tobaya, North Darfur, in which UNAMID took part, reported today that although the situation has stabilized, further aid is needed.

10 Jan 2011 -09 January 2011 - UNAMID reports that on 7 January, a Sudanese national working for CARE International was killed by unknown assailants in an apparent robbery in Graida, a town located roughly 80 kilometers southeast of Nyala, South Darfur. Government authorities are investigating the matter.
