19 December 2010 - UNAMID peacekeepers in Khor Abeche, South Darfur, continue to ensure the safety and security of displaced civilians sheltered outside the UNAMID team site following fighting between Sudanese Armed Forces and Sudan Liberation Army / Minni Minawi last week. The number of IDPs around the UNAMID base is now estimated to be over 1000 people.
18 Dec 2010 - 18 December 2010 - UNAMID reported today that all fighting in the area of Khor Abeche, South Darfur, has stopped following clashes on 17 December between the Sudanese Armed Forces (SAF) and the Sudan Liberation Army / Minni Minawi (SLA/MM). However the situation remains tense.
Five civilians were treated at UNAMID’s clinic for minor injuries sustained during the incident.
17 Dec 2010 - 17 December 2010 - UNAMID reported today that Sudanese Armed Forces (SAF) and Sudan Liberation Army / Minni Minawi (SLA/MM) elements started fighting at 1400 hrs in Khor Abeche village, located 80km northeast of Nyala, in South Darfur. This fighting was reportedly still ongoing at 1730 hrs.
17 Dec 2010 - 17 December 2010 - UNAMID today received at its headquarters in El Fasher, North Darfur, ambassadors and representatives from the African Union Peace and Security Council, for a one-day field visit.
16 Dec 2010 - 16 December 2010 - Following the clashes between Sudanese Armed Forces and Sudan Liberation Army / Minni Minawi in Shangil Tobaya village, North Darfur, on 14 December, UNAMID observed that its villagers had fled to Nifasha and Shaddad internally displaced persons (IDP) camps, while others took refuge around the Mission’s team site. Three civilians injured due to the shooting received treatment at UNAMID’s clinic.
16 December 2010 - UNAMID, the United Nations Country Team in Sudan and the Government of the Sudan hosted today in Khartoum a Pre-Conference Summit on Water. The meeting was jointly opened by the Mission’s Joint Special Representative, Ibrahim Gambari, UNICEF Representative in Sudan, Nils Katsberg, and the Minister of State, Irrigation and Water Resources, Salaheldin Yusif.
15 Dec 2010 - 15 December 2010 - UNAMID reported yesterday a shooting between Sudanese Armed Forces and Sudan Liberation Army / Minni Minawi (SLA/MM) elements in Shangil Tobaya village, located 65 km south of El Fasher, North Darfur.
15 Dec 2010 - 15 December 2010 - The security situation in the Khor Abeche, South Darfur, is improving, but remains tense. Following attacks carried out on 10 and 11 December, UNAMID located unexploded ordnance (UXO) in the village and moved them to a safe location for destruction.
15 Dec 2010 - 15 December 2010 - Yesterday a UNAMID vehicle was hijacked at approximately 8 km from Fata Burno, North Darfur. Three uniformed men armed with AK 47 rifles and a loaded Rocket Propelled Grenade Launcher (RPG 7) stopped a UNAMID convoy returning from Fata Burno to Kutum. They aimed the RPG at the vehicle carrying three police advisors and forced them out of their car.
14 Dec 2010 - 14 December 2010 - The current security situation in the Khor Abeche village, South Darfur, is improving, but remains tense. Following attacks carried out on 10 and 11 December, approximately 45 households from the locality have moved to the town of Menawashi, located 25km west of Khor Abeche and 70km north of Nyala.
The Mission continues to provide shelter and water to those in front of UNAMID's team site.
