11 Jan 11 - Chairman of UN Secretary General’s Referendum Panel visits South Darfur

11 January 2011 - During a visit today to Nyala, South Darfur, the Chairman of the UN Secretary-General’s Panel on the Referendum in South Sudan, and former President of the Republic of Tanzania, Mr. Benjamin Mkapa, expressed his satisfaction with the peaceful conduct of the referendum. He expressed hope that the outcome would be accepted by all.

Mr. Mkapa was briefed by the Chairman of the State High Committee for the Referendum, Mr. Suleiman Abdulrahim Suleiman and the Deputy Wali (Governor) of South Darfur, Mr. Abdul Karim Musa Abdul Karim. According to Sulieman, the process was peaceful. The former President also visited Al Gaida Polling Center in Nyala and witnessed the polling progress.
