12 Jan 11 - Conflict resolution, reconciliation in South Darfur

12 January 2011 - A UNAMID team in Sheiria town, situated approximately 92 kilometres northeast of Nyla, South Darfur, held separate meetings with Umda Tyrab and Umda Abakar, the traditional leaders of the native administration for Birgit and Zaghawa tribes respectively.

The talks focused on the issues of the peaceful coexistence of the two communities in the locality and the provision of water as humanitarian assistance to the internally displaced persons (IDPs), following clashes last month that resulted in more than 300 IDPs taking refuge alongside the Mission's team site and who are still there.
