    27 December 2010 - UNAMID today delivered 19 tons of food to the estimated 10,000 displaced persons sheltered outside its team site in Khor Abeche, after restrictions on movement were lifted at all sites of recent clashes in North and South Darfur. Similar missions to Shangil Tobaya and Shaeria by UNAMID and humanitarian actors are planned for the coming days.

    26 December 2010 - The security situation in North and South Darfur remains tense following recent clashes between government forces and armed movements. UNAMID has not received reports of fighting today. Displaced people in areas where there were clashes recently are still sheltered around various UNAMID team sites where the Mission peacekeepers continue to offer them protection.

    24 December 2010 - The number of displaced persons shelting outside three UNAMID team sites in South Darfur after the recent outbreak of fighting last week has been revised after consultations with the UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA), UNAMID’s Humanitarian Liaison office and peacekeepers on the ground.

    23 December 2010 - Following outbreak of fighting last week, UNAMID continues to provide protection to the increasing number of displaced persons seeking refuge outside the Mission’s team sites in Khor Abeche, Shangil Tobaya and Shearia. The Mission is currently in discussions with aid groups and state officials on the provision of a humanitarian response.

    22 December 2010 - The University of El Fasher’s Center for Peace, Development Studies and Human Rights, in cooperation with UNAMID Political Affairs, held a one-day workshop in El Fasher, North Darfur, to promote an exchange of ideas on the South Sudan referendum and its outcomes by academics, civil society leaders and state officials.Over sixty participants attended the event, including representatives of the South Sudan Referendum Commission.

    22 December 2010 - UNAMID peacekeepers continue to provide protection, as well as water and limited medical assistance to displaced persons who have been sheltering outside the Mission’s team sites in Khor Abeche and Shangil Tobaya, South Darfur, the recent outbreak of fighting. There are now over 3000 people surrounding the Shangil Tobaya team site.

    21 December 2010 - An unknown group of armed men attacked an Internally Displaced Persons (IDP) camp last night in Shaeria, 45 km south east of Khor Abeche in South Darfur, burning down a part of the settlement.

    20 December 2010 - Following last week’s clashes between Sudanese Armed Forces and Sudan Liberation Army / Minni Minnawi in Khor Abeche, South Darfur, UNAMID peacekeepers are currently carrying out a verification patrol of the area. The Mission continues to safeguard civilians sheltered outside its nearby team site and is also currently working to secure air access to the region for humanitarian missions.
