27 Dec 10 - Update on security situation

27 December 2010 - UNAMID today delivered 19 tons of food to the estimated 10,000 displaced persons sheltered outside its team site in Khor Abeche, after restrictions on movement were lifted at all sites of recent clashes in North and South Darfur. Similar missions to Shangil Tobaya and Shaeria by UNAMID and humanitarian actors are planned for the coming days.

Heavy firing was reported several kilometers from the UNAMID team site in Shangil Tobaya, North Darfur. UNAMID is currently verifying these reports and has increased its patrols on the ground. UNAMID team sites in North and South Darfur where thousands of displaced persons have sought refuge continue to offer protection, water and limited medical assistance.
