09 Feb 2015 - On 9 February 2015, the Under-Secretary-General and Executive Secretary, Economic Commission for Africa (ECA), Carlos Lopes, paid a one-day, official visit to El Fasher in North Darfur. The visit was aimed at exploring ways in which the ECA can assist in formulating a development strategy to usher in an economic transformation across Sudan.
29 Jan 2015 - The Secretary-General is deeply concerned about the deteriorating security situation in Darfur following reports of an escalation of hostilities between the Government of Sudan and the Darfur armed movements in Central Darfur and the resulting displacement of civilians. The UN has confirmed that at least 36,000 civilians have been displaced in Darfur due to these hostilities.
25 Jan 2015 - El Fasher, 25 January 2015 – The African Union United Nations Mission in Darfur (UNAMID) facilitated today the launch of the Darfur Internal Dialogue and Consultations (DIDC) process at El Fasher University in North Darfur.
The event brought together Government of Sudan and Darfur Regional Authority (DRA) officials, members of the DIDC Implementation Committee, representatives of the Darfur civil society and internally displaced people and UNAMID officials.
22 Jan 2015 - El Fasher, 22 January 2015 – Following clashes between armed opposition groups and the Sudanese Armed Forces in the East Jebel Marra area and north of Kutum over the past few weeks, the African Union-United Nations Mission in Darfur (UNAMID) is concerned about the impact of the ongoing conflict on civilians. Newly displaced people arrived in several localities of North Darfur, mainly in Um Baru, Tawilla and Sortony as well as Nertiti in Central Darfur.
15 Jan 2015 - El Geneina, 15 January 2015 – African Union-United Nations Acting Joint Special Representative (AJSR), Mr. Abiodun Bashua, visited El Geneina, West Darfur, on 14-15 January to assess the security situation, the cooperation between the African Union -United Nations Mission in Darfur (UNAMID) and local authorities and the humanitarian situation particularly the plight of internally displaced people (IDPs) concerns.
13 Jan 2015 - Nyala, 13 January 2015 – The ninth meeting of the Implementation Follow-up Commission (IFC) of the Doha Document for Peace in Darfur (DDPD) was held yesterday in Nyala, South Darfur. The Commission discussed the progress made and the challenges faced in the implementation of the DDPD since its last meeting which was held on 28 April 2014.
28 Nov 2014 - El Fasher, 28 November 2014 – As part of its Darfur-wide campaign geared to prevent the recruitment of children as soldiers, on 26 November 2014, the African Union-United Nations Mission in Darfur (UNAMID) reached out to Masteriha community, North Darfur, in an event attended by more than 1,000 men, women and school children.
24 Nov 2014 - Addis Ababa, 24 November 2014 — The African Union-United Nations Acting Joint Special Representative and Joint Chief Mediator a.i. for Darfur, Abiodun Bashua, participated in the opening session of the negotiations between the Government of Sudan and non-signatory Darfuri movements in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, on 23 November.
22 Nov 2014 - El Fasher, 22 November 2014 – More than 140 women representing the five states of Darfur participated in a Global Open Day forum on the UN Security Council Resolution (UNSCR) 1325 organized by the African Union-United Nations Mission in Darfur (UNAMID) in El Fasher, North Darfur. The event that took place on 20 November 2014 was held under the theme “Women count for peace.”
21 Nov 2014 - El Daein, 21 November 2014 - The Acting Joint Special Representative (JSR) of the African Union – United Nations Mission in Darfur (UNAMID) and Joint Chief Mediator a.i., Abiodun Bashua, visited Nyala in South Darfur and El Daein in East Darfur from 18-20 November, as part of his regional tour to follow up on coordination and cooperation between the Mission and the states' authorities to achieve peace in Darfur.
