18 Dec 10 - Update on Khor Abeche situation

18 December 2010 - UNAMID reported today that all fighting in the area of Khor Abeche, South Darfur, has stopped following clashes on 17 December between the Sudanese Armed Forces (SAF) and the Sudan Liberation Army / Minni Minawi (SLA/MM). However the situation remains tense.

Five civilians were treated at UNAMID’s clinic for minor injuries sustained during the incident.

The Mission has noticed that approximately 12,000 people fled the area and are moving towards Shangil Tobaya and Zam Zam internally displaced persons camp, near El Fasher, North Darfur, where 100 have arrived today.
