31 Oct 2011 - El Fasher, 30 October 2011 - The newly appointed United Nations Under-Secretary-General for Peacekeeping Operations, Hervé Ladsous, chose Darfur for his first visit to a UN field operation. The UN Department of Peacekeeping Operations (DPKO) supports 16 peacekeeping missions around the globe, of which the African Union-United Nations Mission in Darfur is the largest.
25 Oct 2011 - As part of its support for peace and development among Darfur’s nomadic community, The African Union - United Nations Mission in Darfur (UNAMID) yesterday handed over three cheques totaling 174 000 SDG as the first installment of support for three Quick Impact Projects (QIPs) in South Darfur. The cheques were received by the implementing partner, Nomads Forum for Peace & Social Coexistence Organization.
24 Oct 2011 - EL FASHER—A senior delegation from the Government of Qatar, along with the newly sworn-in chairperson of the Darfur Regional Authority, landed in El Fasher today and vowed to the Joint Special Representative of the African Union-United Nations Peacekeeping Mission to continue the drive for peace in Darfur.
24 Oct 2011 - El Fasher—Renowned Sudanese entertainer Omer Ihsas today launched a new song dedicated to peace in Darfur at a United Nations Day event, which included a military and police parade representing some of the many nationalities serving with the UN in Darfur, Sudanese performances and exhibits of the UN system’s varied work in Darfur.
21 October, 2011 — World-renowned Sudanese singer, composer and band leader—Omer Ihsas—will launch the song “New Era: Darfur Peace Song”—at the observation of United Nations Day, 24 October, during a celebrationto be held from 10 a.m. at the Al Zubier Stadium in El Fasher, Darfur, with entertainers Saleh Idrees, Ahmed Sheeriff, Fathi Almahi, Safa Hamid and Shimoos. Later, at 1800, the entertainers will perform at a concert in the same venue.
23 Oct 2011 - 1. On 19 October 2011, the Joint Special Representative (JSR) of the African Union – United Nations Hybrid Operation in Darfur (UNAMID) and Joint Chief Mediator ad interim (JCM a.i.), Mr. Ibrahim Gambari, convened in El Geneina the fourth retreat of the Special Envoys for Darfur. Eighteen representatives, including from the European Union and African Union participated in the retreat.
