20 Oct 11 -- UNAMID supports youth groups in South Darfur

UNAMID yesterday met with representatives of the youth community in Nyala in South Darfur to get their views on the
dissemination of the Doha Document for Peace in Darfur (DDPD), as well as to explore ways to form an independent forum that will represent all youth entities in which they can have a voice in planning activities and programs for their
communities.

The participants welcomed the initiative of establishing a youth forum, requesting the Mission to address issues
of young people as well as to support their development plans for the centers in Nyala. They also called for more
capacity-building programs to enhance their skills to allow them to effectively contribute in their communities.

During the meeting, the participants also expressed concern at the challenges facing them.

The meeting was a first step for Nyala’s youth in laying the ground for their future participation in the peace process.
