25 Oct 11- UNAMID supports nomad community projects

As part of its support for peace and development among Darfur’s nomadic community, The African Union - United Nations Mission in Darfur (UNAMID) yesterday handed over three cheques totaling 174 000 SDG as the first installment of support for three Quick Impact Projects (QIPs) in South Darfur. The cheques were received by the implementing partner, Nomads Forum for Peace & Social Coexistence Organization.

QIPs are a key element of UNAMID’s strategy to underpin the peace process in Darfur by supporting projects to bring
about economic recovery and livelihoods opportunities for the Darfuris.

The initial projects will target training for women and children and fund social services intended to reduce conflict
between nomads and farmers.
