The AU, UN, GoS tripartite committee for the deployment of the hybrid operation in Darfur has today launched its first meeting at the Sudanese Foreign Affairs Ministry in Khartoum .

01 Dec 2008 - On Monday 25 August, UNAMID officials in the South Darfur Sector Headquarters of Nyala received information that Government of Sudan (GoS) armed elements were at the Kalma Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) camp, situated 25km from the town of Nyala. Initial reports mentioned that shots had been fired at the camp location, resulting in a number of casualties.

01 Dec 2008 - A joint Qatar/ African Union and League of Arab Sates delegation visited yesterday afternoon, the African Union United Nations Hybrid Operation in Darfur (UNAMID) Headquarters for a briefing on the political, humanitarian and security situation in the mission’s area of responsibility.

01 Dec 2008 - The Joint Special Representative (JSR) of the African Union – United Nations Hybrid Operation in Darfur (UNAMID), Mr. Rodolphe Adada, officially expressed to the Government of Sudan UNAMID’s “grave concern” over the recent tragic incidents of 25 August 2008 at the Internally Displaced Persons camp of Kalma, South Darfur, notably concerning the excessive use of force which caused the death of innocent IDPs, including children and women, in addition to a considerable number of wounded.

01 Dec 2008 - A contingent of 130 officers from the Indonesian Formed Police Unit (FPU) arrived in El Fasher today, aboard a special UN flight from Jakarta, at the start of a one-year tour of duty with the African Union - United Nations Hybrid Operation in Darfur (UNAMID).
The unit was received at the airport by UNAMID Deputy Police Commissioner for Operations, Adeyemi Ogunjemilusi, and UNAMID Police Sector North Commander, John Gachomo.
