  • 16 Mar 2009 - El Fasher, 26 Jan 2009 - UNAMID is gravely concerned over the disturbing events that have taken place today close to the city of El Fasher, North Darfur. Explosions, shelling, mortars and sounds of fighter jets alerted the inhabitants of El Fasher at early hours of the day and gave room to spreading rumors that the city was under attack by one of the armed Movements and that the Sudanese Armed Forces were defending the city and repulsing the attack.
  • 16 Mar 2009 - EXCHANGE OF LETTERS BETWEEN UNAMID AND THE GOVERNMENT OFUGANDA ON THE ESTABLISHMENT OF A NEW LIAISON OFFICE IN ENTEBBE KAMPALA, JANUARY 23. During a ceremony at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Uganda in Kampala, UNAMID and the Government of Uganda exchanged letters on the establishment of a new UNAMID Liaison Office in Entebbe, Uganda.
  • 16 Mar 2009 - Addis Ababa, 19 January 2009 – Representatives of the African Union Commission, the United Nations (UN) and the Government of Sudan (GoS) met today in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, in the third meeting of the Tripartite coordinating mechanism on the African Union-United Nations Hybrid Operation (UNAMID) to address key issues relating to the deployment of UNAMID and plans for the way forward.
  • 16 Mar 2009 - El Fasher, 18 January, 2009 – The African Union – United Nations Hybrid Operation in Darfur, UNAMID, has confirmed that the Justice and Equality Movement (JEM) has taken full control of Muhajeriya, South Darfur, from the Sudan Liberation Movement of Minni Minawi (SLA/M) after fierce fighting that has led to additional suffering to the civilian population in the area.
  • 16 Mar 2009 - El Fasher, 1 January 2009 – The African Union – United Nations Hybrid Operation in Darfur (UNAMID) marks today its first year of service to the people of Darfur. In the year since the transfer of responsibility from the African Union Mission in the Sudan (AMIS) on 31 December 2007, former AMIS soldiers, police officers, together with their civilian colleagues serving in UNAMID, have worked tirelessly under difficult and often dangerous circumstances to sustain a presence throughout Darfur.
  • 16 Mar 2009 - El Fasher, 29 December 2008 – The African Union – United Nations Hybrid Operation in Darfur (UNAMID) announces with regret the death of one of its peacekeepers as a result of injuries sustained when fired upon in the course of a hijacking carried out by unknown armed men in the town of El Fasher in the early evening of 27 December 2008. Particulars are being withheld at this time pending notification of next of kin.
  • 16 Mar 2009 - El Fasher, 23 December 2008: The African Union-United Nations Hybrid Operation in Darfur today bid farewell to one of its peacekeepers, the Late Private Isaac Adegbaju, who died after a short illness on 15 December 2008 in North Darfur.
  • 16 Mar 2009 - El Fasher, 27 November 2008 - The African Union -United Nations Hybrid Operation in Darfur (UNAMID) and Government of Sudan (GoS) Darfur Security Integrated Task Force (DSITF), held in Khartoum yesterday its first meeting to discuss issues of common concern related to security in Darfur. The AU-UN Joint Special Representative, Rodolphe Adada, led the UNAMID side while General Salah Abdullah, the Director-General of National Security and Intelligence, led the GoS side.
  • 16 Mar 2009 - El Fasher, 12 November 2008 – The African Union - United Nations Hybrid Operation in Darfur, UNAMID, welcomes the announcement of an immediate ceasefire in Darfur made today by Sudan President Omar Hassan El Bashir at the closing session of the Sudan People’s Forum. This ceasefire could signal the start of a new phase in the search for a just and lasting peace in Darfur.
  • 16 Mar 2009 - El Fasher, 10 November 2008 On Sunday 9 November, at about 17:45 hrs, a UNAMID Peacekeepers patrol from the Nigerian Protection Force Company stationed at the Geneina Super Camp, in West Darfur, was ambushed by a group of unknown men, armed with Rocket Propelled Grenades (RPGs) and AK-47 assault rifles, in the Super Camp vicinity.
