UNAMID leadership briefs Darfur Partners Group

Khartoum, 19 February 2009 -- The African Union-United Nations Joint Special Representative, Mr. Rodolphe Adada, and UNAMID Force Commander, General Martin Luther Agwai, briefed the members of the Darfur Partners Group on the current situation in Darfur, at the invitation of the Ambassador of the United Kingdom to Sudan, Dr. Rosalind Mary Marsden, who is the chair of this group composed of the Ambassadors and Representatives of Canada, France, Germany, the Netherlands, Norway and the United States.

The briefing included details about the Ceasefire Monitoring Mechanism developed by UNAMID and highlighted areas of cooperation where the Darfur Partners Group could be of assistance. Also covered were the steps undertaken by UNAMID to promote confidence-building measures on the ground.

This meeting provided an opportunity to brief the Partners on the multifaceted activities of UNAMID Civil Affairs, Humanitarian Liaison, Human Rights, Political and Darfur-Darfur Dialogue and Consultation (DDDC) components and was followed by an exchange of views on all aspects of the Darfur situation.

The Members of the Darfur Partners Group expressed their appreciation for the work done by UNAMID and pledged their continued support for the Mission.

Both sides agreed to hold similar briefings on a regular basis.
