13 Mar 2012 -13 March 2012 - UNAMID launched today a two-day medical camp for inmates at Nyala Central prison, South Darfur. The exercise, organized in collaboration with the State Ministry of Health and the UN World Health Organization (WHO), is aimed at assisting prisoners who don’t have regular access to health services at the detention center.

11 Mar 2012 -11 March 2012 - The verification of the Liberation and Justice Movement (LJM) military disposition concluded this weekend in Darfur. The exercise, undertaken by the African Union – United Nations Mission in Darfur (UNAMID), started on 5 March and is a key element of the Doha Document for Peace in Darfur (DDPD). It aims at preparing the ground for disengagement and re-deployment of the parties’ forces followed by arms control.

07 Mar 2012 -6 March 2012 - A new school to accommodate more than 500 students was yesterday inaugurated in Turba village, located between El Fasher and the Zam Zam internally displaced persons (IDP) in North Darfur, by African Union - United Nations Mission in Darfur (UNAMID) Force Commander Lt General Patrick Nyamvumba. Construction on Turba Primary School, which commenced in 2011, was carried out by UNAMID's Rwandese Battalion with participation from the local community.

01 Mar 2012 - 01 Mar 12 - More than 300 students at North Darfur's main university today debated over whether an economic or political solution was the answer to the conflict in Darfur. The annual debate, attended by the State's senior most official as well as the head of the African Union-United Nations Mission in Darfur (UNAMID), addressed "Sustainable Peace in Darfur: is the solution political or economic."

29 Feb 2012 -29 February 2012- An ambush today by unknown gunmen on an African Union – United Nations Mission (UNAMID) patrol in South Darfur has left one peacekeeper dead and three injured.The incident, in which the peacekeepers returned fire, took place at approximately 16:00 hours near Shearia town, located roughly 90 kilometres northeast of Nyala, South Darfur.When further information is available, it will be communicated.
