6 March 2012 - A new school to accommodate more than 500 students was yesterday inaugurated in Turba village, located between El Fasher and the Zam Zam internally displaced persons (IDP) in North Darfur, by African Union - United Nations Mission in Darfur (UNAMID) Force Commander Lt General Patrick Nyamvumba.

Construction on Turba Primary School, which commenced in 2011, was carried out by UNAMID's Rwandese Battalion with participation from the local community.

The institution, funded as one of several quick impact projects (QIPs) by the Mission, is among 23 ongoing QIPs initiatives aimed at providing an immediate benefit to communities in the region.

Those taking part in the ceremony included women, men, children and elders from the surrounding areas. “UNAMID is not only here to provide physical security for the people of Darfur, but also to ensure their social status is greatly improved," said the Force Commander.
