  • 24 May 2012 - Khartoum, 23 May 2012 - The Regional Conference on Small Arms and Light Weapons (SALW) Control concluded today in Khartoum with the agreement of Sudan, Central African Republic, Chad, Democratic Republic of Congo and Libya to improve their cooperation through the creation of a regional mechanism that will aim to control, manage and safeguard against the proliferation of small arms and illegal trafficking of weapons.
  • 24 May 2012 - El Fasher 23 May 2012 - The African Union-United Nations Mission in Darfur (UNAMID) and the UN Country Team (UNCT) in Sudan held a Joint Meeting today at UNAMID’s Main Headquarters in El-Fasher, North Darfur, to reaffirm their strong collaboration across the region. This Joint UNAMID-UNCT Meeting advanced joint planning for the implementation of the Doha Document for Peace in Darfur (DDPD) and coordination of support to the Darfur Regional Authority (DRA).
  • 22 May 2012 - 21 May 2012 - During a brief visit to El Geneina, West Darfur, the Head of the African Union-United Nations Mission in Darfur (UNAMID) and Joint Chief Mediator a.i, Professor Ibrahim Gambari, met with the Deputy Wali Abul-Gasim Baraka, today to discuss a number of issues including the security situation, development projects and basic services such as education, health care, water and sanitation and infrastructure.  
  • 17 May 2012 - 17 May 2012 - The Darfur Women Legislative Caucus and UNAMID today concluded a three-day advocacy seminar. The forum was aimed at assessing the challenges faced by women in Darfur, identifying gender gaps in the Constitution and Sudanese laws, and examining relevant international and regional human rights instruments for effective sexual and gender-based violence (SGBV) prevention and response in the region. 
  • 14 May 2012 -  El Fasher--The Liberation and Justice Movement (LJM), a signatory along with the Government of the Sudan of the Doha Document for Peace in Darfur (DDPD), has agreed to prohibit the use of child soldiers, following consultations with the African Union - United Nations Mission in Darfur (UNAMID), and in the context of the DDPD implementation.
  • 10 May 2012 - Addis Ababa - The Deputy Joint Special Representative (Political) of the African Union and United Nations for Darfur, Ms. Aichatou Mindaoudou Souleymane, met yesterday with Dr. Jean Ping, Chairperson of the African Union Commission, to discuss recent developments in Darfur and the work of the AU-UN Hybrid Mission in Darfur (UNAMID).
  • 10 May 2012 - The African Union-United Nations Mission in Darfur (UNAMID), in collaboration with the UN Development Programme (UNDP), on Wednesday launched a series of vocational skills training programmes, entitled ”Training of Trainers,” targeting 16 prison staff and 22 juvenile inmates in North Darfur State.

  • 01 May 2012 - Mornei, 1 May 2012- The deputy head of the African Union-United Nations Mission in Darfur traveled yesterday to Mornei in West Darfur to mourn the death of a Togolese police officer killed on 20 April during a patrol to an internally displaced persons camp.
  • 23 Apr 2012 - Nigerian Minister of Defence, Dr. Bello Mohammed on Sunday said the Nigeria Government would soon upgrade its military-owned equipment in line with the UN standards and explore ways to increase its support to the African Union-United Nations Mission in Darfur (UNAMID).
