The Deputy Joint Special Representative (Political), Ms. Aichatou Mindaoudou Souleymane, co-chaired the event with the UN Resident Coordinator/Humanitarian Coordinator in Sudan, Mr. Ali Hassan Al-Za’tari. The event was also represented by all of the UN Agencies with active humanitarian and development programmes in Sudan.

“We at UNAMID believe that with strong collaboration between the UN peacekeeping mission in Darfur and the UN Country Team in Sudan, we could provide the necessary support to the Darfur Regional Authority to effect significant change in the lives of the people of Darfur,” said Ms. Mindaoudou.

Mr. Al-Za’tari added “this Meeting is an important step forward in establishing institutional and dynamic mechanisms to enhance the level of our collaboration.”

UNAMID has worked closely with the UN Country Team in facilitating the delivery of humanitarian assistance and advancing the implementation of the protection of civilians mandate. In addition, UNAMID has assisted the UN Country Team, particularly UNHCR, in its efforts supporting voluntary return.

Participants discussed ways to support the efforts of the Darfur Regional Authority and its capacity to implement the peace agreement. Furthermore, they shared their respective plans to consolidate civilian staff presence in areas of high priority, such as highly populated IDP camps.
