19 Feb 2013 - As we mark World Day of Social Justice, we see far too many places where there are increasing opportunities for a few and only rising inequality for the many. Growing inequality undermines the international community’s progress in lifting millions out of poverty and building a more just world. The fault lines are visible in falling wages for women and young people and limited access to education, health services and decent jobs.

06 Feb 2013 - A series of workshops on women’s participation in the Darfur Peace Process were organized throughout Darfur by the African Union - United Nations Mission in Darfur (UNAMID). The forums, which targeted more than 160 local media representatives of which most were women, aimed at enhancing the capacity to advocate on the importance of the role of women in the peace and political process in the region.

01 Feb 2013 - The first registration and marking of civilian arms in West Darfur officially began on 30 January 2013. Over the course of the next six months, the Government of Sudan expects to register approximately 30,000 arms. The initiative is designed to curb the proliferation of arms and reduce violence in the area.

21 Jan 2013 - Doha, 21 January 2013 - Amid optimism and determination, peace negotiations between the Government of Sudan and the Justice and Equality Movement Sudan were launched on 20 January in Doha, under the auspices of Qatar’s Deputy Prime Minister, Ahmed Bin Abdullah Al-Mahmoud, and the Acting Joint Special Representative of UNAMID and Joint Chief Mediator a.i. Ms. Aichatou Mindaoudou.
