  • 28 May 2009 - El Fasher, 8 May 2009 – The African Union-United Mission in Darfur (UNAMID) announces with deep regret that one of its peacekeepers was shot and killed last night in South Darfur during a carjacking incident. At approximately 20:30 hours, unidentified gunmen shot the male military observer as he was opening the gate of his residence in Nyala, the state capital, to park his vehicle. The peacekeeper was rushed to a nearby UNAMID medical centre for treatment but died upon arrival.
  • 20 Mar 2009 - El Fasher, 17 March 2009 - Today, at about 13:20 hours, six UNAMID Peacekeepers were ambushed by approximately eight unknown gunmen, who opened fire on them, while they were returning to their base in Nyala, South Darfur after conducting an escort patrol.
  • 20 Mar 2009 - El Fasher, 14 March 2009-- The African Union-United Nations Mission in Darfur (UNAMID) has welcomed tonight’s safe release of four staff members with the non-governmental organization (NGO) Médecins Sans Frontières-Belgium, three days after they were abducted by gunmen in North Darfur.
  • 16 Mar 2009 - El-Fasher, 16 February 2009 Following reports of several days of clashes in the locality of Wada’ah 90 kilometers south of El-Fasher (North Darfur) involving the forces of the Government of Sudan (GoS) and armed groups present and operating in the area, UNAMID, the African Union – United Nations Hybrid Operation in Darfur, rapidly organized and dispatched, by helicopter, a fact-finding and assessment team to Wada’ah on 13 February.
  • 16 Mar 2009 - El Fasher, 9 February 2009: The Joint Special Representative of the African Union – United Nations Mission in Darfur (UNAMID), Mr. Rodolphe Adada, yesterday led an assessment team to Muhajeriya, South Darfur, to inspect the conditions on the ground following the recent hostilities that resulted in many casualties and the displacement of thousands of civilians over the past three weeks.
  • 16 Mar 2009 - El Fasher, 2 February 2009: The African Union – United Nations Hybrid Operation in Darfur (UNAMID) received yesterday a request from the Government of Sudan to withdraw its forces from Muhajeriya, approximately 80 kilometers east of Nyala, South Darfur, due to the recent deterioration of the security situation in the area.
  • 16 Mar 2009 - El Fasher, 30 January 2009: The African Union – United Nations Hybrid Operation in Darfur (UNAMID) has received disturbing allegations that white Armored Personnel Carriers (APCs), similar to those used by UNAMID peacekeeping forces, have been used by armed movements in recent fighting. UNAMID stresses that it has not lost any APCs while carrying out its mandate in Darfur, nor has it observed any party using white APCs similar to its own.
  • 16 Mar 2009 - El Fasher, 26 January 2009: UNAMID has noted with concern that since the fighting started on 15 January in Muhajeriya, South Darfur, warring factions have been deploying in the vicinity of UNAMID camps in South Darfur. UNAMID reminds all parties involved in the fighting of the neutral position of the Mission and that UNAMID is deployed in Darfur to implement its mandated tasks including the protection of civilians.
  • 16 Mar 2009 - El Fasher, 26 Jan 2009 - UNAMID is gravely concerned over the disturbing events that have taken place today close to the city of El Fasher, North Darfur. Explosions, shelling, mortars and sounds of fighter jets alerted the inhabitants of El Fasher at early hours of the day and gave room to spreading rumors that the city was under attack by one of the armed Movements and that the Sudanese Armed Forces were defending the city and repulsing the attack.
  • 16 Mar 2009 - EXCHANGE OF LETTERS BETWEEN UNAMID AND THE GOVERNMENT OFUGANDA ON THE ESTABLISHMENT OF A NEW LIAISON OFFICE IN ENTEBBE KAMPALA, JANUARY 23. During a ceremony at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Uganda in Kampala, UNAMID and the Government of Uganda exchanged letters on the establishment of a new UNAMID Liaison Office in Entebbe, Uganda.
