  • 16 Oct 2011 - 14 October 2011 – Force Commander Lieutenant General Patrick Nyamvumba (Rwanda) on 13 October led a memorial ceremony for three peacekeepers killed on a patrol at the Zam Zam Internally Displaced Persons Camp on 10 October.
  • 12 Oct 2011 - 12 October 2011 - Five peacekeepers (four Rwandese soldiers and one Gambian Police Adviser) injured in the 10 October attack in Zam Zam internally displaced persons camp are being treated in a Khartoum hospital. UNAMID has confirmed that (two Rwandese soldiers and one Police Adviser from Senegal) were killed in the attack.
  • 11 Oct 2011 - El Fasher, 11 October 2011 – At approximately 20:15 on 10 October, an African Union-United Nations Mission in Darfur (UNAMID) patrol came under attack by armed assailants in Zam Zam internally displaced persons camp some 10 kilometres south of El Fasher in North Darfur. Three peacekeepers -two soldiers and one police advisor- were killed and six peacekeepers injured, three of them seriously. One assailant was also killed.
  • 09 Oct 2011 - 09 October 2011 - UNAMID team discovered six Unexploded Ordnance (UXOs) at Burgo village, located near Sortony, West Darfur, UNAMID moved the UXOs to a safe area and marked them for a disposal operation that will be conducted shortly.   
  • 09 Oct 2011 -  09 October 2011 - A UNAMID Sudanese staff member working in El Fasher, North Darfur, who was detained on 3 September 2011 by the Sudanese Security Services, was released yesterday without charges against him. UNAMID Human Rights and Security Sections will continue to monitor the case.  
  • 07 Oct 2011 - Ottawa, 7 October 2011 – Canada’s help could be critical in assisting the development of a “new roadmap” for the Darfur peace process, the head of the African Union-United Nations Mission in Darfur, Joint Special Representative Ibrahim Gambari, said in talks with senior Canadian Government officials during a three-day visit to Ottawa.

  • 06 Oct 2011 - 6 October 2011 - UNAMID peacekeepers stationed in Nertiti, West Darfur, will intensify patrols around Arkis and Habad East internally displaced persons camps after receiving information about harassment of the local population by unidentified armed personnel. Reportedly, there are casualties among civilians and freedom of movement is severely restricted.
  • 05 Oct 2011 - El Fasher, 5 October 2011 — The Sudan Liberation Army’s Historical Leadership, a breakaway group from the armed movement SLA/Abdel Wahid, one of the major factions fighting in Darfur, has agreed to prohibit the use of child soldiers, following discussions with the African Union-United Nations Mission in Darfur (UNAMID).
