At the ceremony held at the UNAMID base, the Force Commander paid tribute to Corporal John Twahirawa of Rwanda, Private Samuel Ntakirutimana of Rwanda and Civilian Police Officer Toure Mamadou of Senegal, who "died for the protection of a fundamental right, the right of all people to live together in peace." Since UNAMID was deployed in 2007, 33 peacekeepers have died due to hostile actions.
