19 May 11 - Aid mission to Kuma Garadayat

19 May 2011 - A team of aid workers today embarked on a field mission to Kuma Garadayat, located northwest of El Fasher in North Darfur, in the most recent stage of a humanitarian initiative led by the UN Office for the Coordination for Humanitarian Affairs and UNAMID.

In addition to conferring with the village leaders and assessing their humanitarian needs, the team distributed furnishings for the school and also delivered medication that can be used to treat more than 5,000 livestock.

UNAMID Nepalese peacekeepers who were conducting a tactical exercise nearby took the opportunity to provide medical assistance to the local population, offering medical check-ups to over 200 residents.

On 26 April, JSR Gambari travelled to the same locality, which is a cluster of returnee villages and home to more than 400 households, to kick off a development initiative in which the Mission distributed rolling water carriers to the community.
