19 May 2011 - UNAMID JSR Ibrahim Gambari and the Government of Sudan Police Commissioner for North Darfur, Omar al-Amin, inaugurated today a Joint Security Operation Center in El Fasher, North Darfur. The initiative will harmonize efforts to bring about a safer environment for the population of El Fasher and UNAMID staff.

The new facility, which is composed of Sudanese police officials and UNAMID police, military and security personnel, is to provide a rapid response in cases of emergency or crisis. “I hope that this good collaboration will continue and will be extended,” said Mr. al-Amin.

The JSR expressed his hope “to replicate this type of center in other Darfur states.” “We feel that this spirit of cooperation will be transferred to other aspects of our work,” he added.
