02 November 2010 - The Under-Secretary General of the UN Department of Safety and Security, Mr. Gregory Starr arrived today in El Fasher, North Darfur, continuing his tour of UN operations in the country.

Mr. Starr’s delegation was welcomed by UNAMID Joint Special Representative Ibrahim Gambari, the Mission’s senior leadership and the regional heads of UN Country Team entities based in the region. The delegates reviewed the latest security developments and exchanged thoughts on how to increase protection to Darfuris and international humanitarian workers as well as how to help aid agencies reach areas of Darfur that remain difficult to access.

Mr. Starr is scheduled to fly tomorrow to Nyala, South Darfur, before departing for Khartoum.
