02 November 2010 - Today marked the conclusion of a three-week course entitled “Prisons Documentation and Record Keeping” in El Fasher, North Darfur, attended by 30 prison officials from all three Darfur states.

The specialized programme was organized jointly by UNAMID, UNDP and the Sudanese General Directorate of Prisons and Reform and was held in the recently inaugurated training facility for prison officers, built with the Mission’s support.

This course is part of a joint strategy aimed at developing the data management system in Darfur penitentiaries, a critical element in carrying out broad reforms and strengthening the prisons system in Darfur to meet the needs of the communities in Darfur. Participants covered such subjects as prison legislation, documentation and policy implementation. The results of the course will go towards helping authorities develop national policies on prisons and justice system in the country.
