UNAMID National Staff released in Central Darfur

El Fasher, 26 July 2015--A UNAMID Civil Affairs Officer, abducted in Nertiti, Central Darfur, was freed today at around 14:15 p.m. after 5 days in captivity.

The Sudanese national, Mr Isam Adam Abduljabar, was seized by a group of unidentified armed men, approximately 4 kilometers away from Mission's Nertiti team site on 21 July 2015.

Mr Abduljabar was freed by his kidnappers near the same team site this afternoon. Upon his arrival, he was immediately taken into the team site's clinic for thorough medical examination. He appears to be unharmed and in good health.

The African Union-United Nations Acting Joint Special Representative for Darfur, Abiodun Bashua, expressed his relief at the release of Mr. Abduljabar "I wish to extend the Mission's good wishes to Isam and commend him for his bravery during this difficult situation. We are extremely happy that Isam will be reunited with his family soon," added the AJSR. He also commended the efforts of all those who facilitated the release of the staff member.
