UNAMID JSR holds meetings with Sudanese officials about supporting the Dialogue & appeals for calm

Khartoum, 13 September 2014 - The AU-UN Joint Special Representative/Joint Chief Mediator (JSR/JCM) for Darfur Mr. Mohamed Ibn Chambas held a number of meetings with key Government Of Sudan officials in Khartoum to discuss Modalities of support to the National Dialogue.

On 11 September 2014, the JSR/JCM met with Dr Eltigani Seisi, the Chairperson of the Darfur Regional Authority (DRA) and Dr Amin Hassan Omer, Head of the Darfur Peace Follow-up Office and briefed them on the positive outcomes of the tripartite meeting between himself, the Qatari Deputy Prime Minister and the Chairperson of the African Union High-Level Implementation Panel (AUHIP) which took place in Doha on 09 September; Particularly the ongoing efforts to bring non-signatory movements to table of National Dialogue.

In both his meetings with the DRA Chairperson and the Head of the Darfur Peace Office, Mr Chambas appealed for calming the currently tense situation in Kalma IDP Camp in South Darfur State. He called on all the parties, in and around Kalma, to exercise restraint and refrain from any hasty actions that could damage the nascent prospects of achieving peace in Darfur and emphasised that peace in the region can only be achieved through dialogue and peaceful means.
