UNAMID-funded Scout building inaugurated in South Darfur

07 March 2010 - On Thursday 04 March, UNAMID helped celebrate the inauguration of the newly-built facilities of the Nyala Scouts Organisation in South Darfur, which were funded as a UNAMID Quick Impact Project (QIP). According to the administrative officer in Nyala Scouts, the UNAMID funded project will be used for public meetings, training courses, lectures and include a basket ball field.

UNAMID Civil Affairs was joined in the festivities by the State’s Ministers of Youth, Sport and Tourism and the Director-General of the State Ministry of Education, who expressed gratitude for the Mission’s continued support of the local community. They emphasized the importance of youth activity in bringing up generations with the values of peace, unity and humanity.

A considerable number of Nyala’s residents turned out in support, as well as scouts from 14 schools throughout in the state.

The new buildings comprise the first stage of the QIPs, the remainder of which is slated for completion within the next few months.
