On 30 June, UNAMID participated in an inter-agency humanitarian assessment mission jointly led by OCHA and HAC. Other participants included WFP, UNICEF, UNHCR, WHO as well as national and international nongovernmental organizations (NGOs) and representatives from the Ministries of Health, Agriculture, Education, State Water Environment and Sanitation Departments. The mission took place in Guldo, a village with a population of 17,000 people located 58 km from Nertiti, Central Darfur. The objective was to assess the humanitarian and security situation in the area.

The delegation met with local authorities and community leaders who requested for basic services such as food, water and healthcare facilities. Umda Issa Ahmed Abdul Karim explained that the region has not had received any humanitarian aid from the agencies and is faced with an acute shortage of water since the three water pumps established here are all damaged.

Additionally, Guldo has four primary schools and two secondary schools. However, the schools lack teachers and basic school supplies such as desks and chairs.
