Rwandan Chief of Defence Staff Visits UNAMID

On 26 April 2015, the Chief of Defence Staff of Rwandan Defence Forces and former UNAMID Force Commander, General Patrick Nyamvumba and his accompanying delegation visited Zalingei, Central Darfur. Upon his arrival, General Nyamvumba addressed the Rwanbatt-42 troops following a guard of honour.

In his speech on the occasion, General Nyamvumba commented on his country’s significant contribution to United Nations peacekeeping missions across the world and in Darfur. He also reminded the Rwandan troops of their vital role as peacekeepers on the ground and encouraged them to carry out their duties with discipline, dedication and responsibility. Additionally, the visiting General briefed them on the current political and security situation in Rwanda.

In the course of his visit, General Nyamvumba also met with the Sudanese Armed Forces (SAF)-21 Division Commander in Zalingei where issues of importance to both parties were discussed.

Earlier, on 25 April 2015, General Nyamvumba met with UNAMID’s Acting Joint Special Representative (AJSR), Abiodun Bashua, at the Mission’s headquarters in El Fasher, North Darfur. Additionally, the General attended a briefing with UNAMID’s Force Commander, Lt. General Paul Mella where security issues were discussed.
