UNAMID Radio Unit has been broadcasting its radio programmes around Darfur since July 2011.Two of its flagship programmes are the Voice of Children; a weekly magazine style radio programme that is produced and presented by children aged 9 to 15 years old, and Yala Nebni Darfur (Lets Build Darfur); one-hour-magazine style radio programme focusing on themes related to UNAMID mandate. Both of these radio programmes are broadcast on radio Al Salaam 98.0 FM in Khartoum and 7.2MHz, 41 Meter Band SW in Darfur every day from 08:30 to 09:30 and from 14:00 to 15:00.

The radio unit has recently launched its new magazine programme, UNAMID Today, a 30 minute radio programme that highlights the Mission’s activities and human interest stories in Darfur. The programme is broadcast  on El Fasher radio, 95 FM and 801 AM every day from 9:30 to 10:00. 

The radio programmes are broadcast in Arabic.

  • Voice of Children, 03 April 2017: Children creativity in Al-salaam IDPs Camp.

    This program features children creativity in Al-salaam IDPs Camp. Creativity is the freest form of self-expression. There is nothing more satisfying and fulfilling for children than to be able to express themselves openly without fear. The ability to be creative, to create something from personal feelings and experiences, can reflect and nurture children's emotional health. Make your home a Petri dish for creativity. Allow kids the freedom and autonomy to explore their ideas and do what they like. Encourage children to read for pleasure and participate in the arts.

  • Yala Nebni Darfur, 02 April 2017: Never Take Medicines Without Consulting the Doctor.

    This program features advice that one never take medicines without consulting the doctor, because it may be harmful to their health. Medicines are the basic necessity of every individual after food, clothing, and shelter. Medicines have become part of our lives because everyone of us needs them at least once in the lifetime. Any medicines whether natural or allopathic, should be taken only after consulting with the doctor. Medicines generally have side effects that you may not know, but a doctor would know them. Thus, a doctor can advise you on what precautions you should take to avoid these side effects. Also, he may give you some other medicines that will help to reduce the adverse effect of the medicine. So, always keep in mind to consult the doctor before you start any medication.

  • Yala Nebni Darfur, 01 April 2017: KIDS FOR KIDS.

    This program features economic activities supported by UNAMID Disarmament, Demobilization and Reintegration Section (DDR) in Forbaranga west Darfur. It also features how KIDS FOR KIDS helps children in Darfur, Sudan, who live lives of unimaginable hardship. “Our key project is a goat loan – we don’t believe in charity, we believe in enabling people to help themselves” said the Project Director in Melleit North Darfur. Children are malnourished in every village.   Many have had no protein, minerals or vitamins for months on end which, and not only means lasting damage to them physically, but their IQ is reduced, often irreparably.  Goat’s milk transforms a child’s health. 

  • Voice of Children, 31 March 2017-repeat of 28th: How to Spend Your School Holidays.

    This program features how children can spent school holiday when school is closed and children finally get the break they deserve. They must figure out what to do with their time, resist the temptation to do nothing all summer so that they can look back on how you could have spent their time without regrets. In this connection, there is the need to plan ahead how to make the break memorable, productive and fun. With work, family and friends, keeping track of summer activities can be overwhelming and this is what children have discussed in this program. 

  • Yala Nebni Darfur, 30 March 2017: Traditional Baskets for Keeping and Preserving Food in Darfur.

    This program features the traditional baskets for keeping and preserving food in Darfur. Making baskets at the Darfur Women Centers requires a lot of time and patience. A typical medium-sized ‘Basket of Hope’ takes about a week to complete, while the larger ‘Basket of Strength’ could take nearly a month. Weavers are paid based on the size of the basket they create. Weavers and Women Center managers set their prices for the baskets they sell, since they know best how much work goes into each one. The traditional use of the baskets is food storage, especially to keep cooked food warm.

  • Yala Nebni Darfur, 29 March 2017: Sexual violence committed against women in Darfur.

    This program features an interview with Dr. Dolap Almasri, a psychologist from North Darfur, on sexual violence committed against women in Darfur. The program also features the harmful traditional practice in rural of areas of Darfur by making incisions on the body of children purportedly to protect them from illness.

  • Yala Nebni Darfur, 27 March 2017: Civil Society and Darfur Peace Process.

    This program features Civil Society and Darfur Peace Process in respect of what has been achieved and what is outstanding. Darfur’s Civil Society works closely with UNAMID to achieve lasting peace in Darfur. The program further features an interview with former Secretary General of Women Department of the Darfur Regional Authority (DRA), Samira Adam Ibrahim, on how to promote peace in Darfur through collaboration with UNAMID. 

  • Yala Nebni Darfur, 26 March 2017: Symptoms and Signs of Breast Cancer.

    This program introduces the individual to the symptoms and signs of breast cancer and it canvasses that when an abnormality is noticed, it should be investigated by a healthcare professional. The program notes that one or two symptoms and signs of cancer may not automatically mean that the person has breast cancer. The program recommends monthly breast self-examination in order to identify any changes in your breast. The program underscores the importance of relating to a healthcare professional when anything unusual is noticed.

  • Yala Nebni Darfur, 25 March 2017: Strong Winds and Rain destroy Houses in Darfur.

    This program focuses on the phenomenon of annual home rehabilitation before each rainy season by displaced women at Abu Shouk camp in El Fasher as strong winds and heavy rains used to destroy tens of houses in the camps in Darfur. Before every rainy season, therefore, the IDPs prepare by fortifying their poor houses to avoid the grim consequences of contending with heavy rains and storm during the rainy season as several people are often injured. An IDP appealed to international aid organizations to act immediately by providing tents and plastic sheets to the IDPs before the rainy season.
