UNAMID Radio Unit has been broadcasting its radio programmes around Darfur since July 2011.Two of its flagship programmes are the Voice of Children; a weekly magazine style radio programme that is produced and presented by children aged 9 to 15 years old, and Yala Nebni Darfur (Lets Build Darfur); one-hour-magazine style radio programme focusing on themes related to UNAMID mandate. Both of these radio programmes are broadcast on radio Al Salaam 98.0 FM in Khartoum and 7.2MHz, 41 Meter Band SW in Darfur every day from 08:30 to 09:30 and from 14:00 to 15:00.

The radio unit has recently launched its new magazine programme, UNAMID Today, a 30 minute radio programme that highlights the Mission’s activities and human interest stories in Darfur. The programme is broadcast  on El Fasher radio, 95 FM and 801 AM every day from 9:30 to 10:00. 

The radio programmes are broadcast in Arabic.

  • Yala Nebni Darfur, 23 February 2017: Traditional food preservation methods for women.

    This program features how teachers in Almahad Basic school in El Fasher, are coping with special learning needs of polio afflicted pupils and students living with disabilities in the school. It also features an interview with Jihad Mohammed, Director of College of Women's Development at the El Fasher University, about the college’s support in training women in traditional food preservation methods to ensure food security in their homes.

  • Yala Nebni Darfur, 22 February 2017: Children’s naughty behavior.

    This program features a report on harmful habits of children and how to teach mothers to abandon these habits that harm children. The program also features an interview with Mariam Harun Ahmed, from Shangil Topaya, about the ancient beautiful customs and traditions in her area.

  • Yala Nebni Darfur, 21 February 2017: Profile of Mohammed Heijazi, sports coach from EL-Fasher.

    This program features the changing practices of Furash, a traditional practice conducted during funerals in Darfur. It also features a Profile of Mohammed Heijazi, sports coach and former player in the Sudan National Team, from El Fasher.

  • Voice of Children, 20 February 2017: children’s education.

    This program features discussion on the child's good education so that he will grow up, to be an example in the society and contribute positively to the development of his future abilities. It also features the importance of educating children in Darfur.

  • Yala Nebni Darfur, 19 February 2017: International Day of women in Darfur.

    This program features UNAMID’s activities to mark 2016 International Day of women, celebrated in El Fasher. It also features an interview with Mwahib Altayb, Secretary General of North Darfur State Committee on violence against Women, about the Committee’s work in sensitizing women in IDP camps and rural areas of North Darfur and how to detect acts of violence against women.

  • Yala Nebni Darfur, 18 February 2017: UNAMID’s Quick Impacts Projects.

    This program features UNAMID’s Quick Impacts Projects, QIPs that the mission has implemented for the women who are members of the El Ebdaa Association for women in El-Fasher. The project serves as a care center for their children who are studying in schools. It also features an interview with Sit Alahal Omar, from Kutum market, about her income generating activities.

  • Voice of Children, 17 February 2017: Children celebrate peace festival in Nyala, South Darfur:

    The program features a discussion on treating others with respect. This is an educating program to the children in Darfur. In this program children celebrate peace festival in Nyala, South Darfur, and the festival is part of the school year festivals. The program further feature the role of family and the importance of educating children.

    Feature on the role of girls in the community especially mothers of future generation of Darfur.

  • Yala Nebni Darfur, 16 February 2017: peaceful coexistence between communities in Kabkabya locality.

    Features the activities of Goz Guozah Community Development Association, a cultural group based in Um Lutua village in Kabkabya locality in North Darfur, This cultural group is using songs to disseminate the culture of peace and prosperity in Darfur. The program also features an interview with Al Tayeb Abakar, Chief Omdah of Kabkabya locality in North Darfur. He talks about peaceful coexistence between communities in the area of his administration.

  • Yala Nebni Darfur, 15 February 2017: Hawakeer has deep history in the culture of Darfuri.

    In this program you will listen to an interview with Fadol Abdallah; a Sudanese artist from North Darfur. He talks about the songs he writes and sings. Most of his songs are about peace in Darfur and women’s participation in the society. It also features handicraft-making business that is part of culture in Darfur, Shayalat soksok (handbag) is one of the handicrafts produced for home decoration.

     This program furthermore talks about Hawakeer (a piece of land), that is used to cultivate vegetables in remote areas. Hawakeer has a deep history in the culture of Darfuri. The control of land is also one of the sources of conflicts Sudan.

  • Yala Nebni Darfur, 14 February 2017: Mobile schools for nomadic education.

    This program features an interview with Ismael Adam Hilal, Assistant Medical Officer of Health Center in Shangil Tobey, about health problems among children, and the services the center provide to population in the area. It also features Mobile schools and how they provide primary education for nomadic communities in Darfur.
