UNAMID Radio Unit has been broadcasting its radio programmes around Darfur since July 2011.Two of its flagship programmes are the Voice of Children; a weekly magazine style radio programme that is produced and presented by children aged 9 to 15 years old, and Yala Nebni Darfur (Lets Build Darfur); one-hour-magazine style radio programme focusing on themes related to UNAMID mandate. Both of these radio programmes are broadcast on radio Al Salaam 98.0 FM in Khartoum and 7.2MHz, 41 Meter Band SW in Darfur every day from 08:30 to 09:30 and from 14:00 to 15:00.

The radio unit has recently launched its new magazine programme, UNAMID Today, a 30 minute radio programme that highlights the Mission’s activities and human interest stories in Darfur. The programme is broadcast  on El Fasher radio, 95 FM and 801 AM every day from 9:30 to 10:00. 

The radio programmes are broadcast in Arabic.

  • Yala Nebni Darfur, 03 May 2017: Building women’s capacity.

    This program features an interview with former General Director of DRA land Commission, Ibtihaj Mohammed Mekki about ownership of land for women in Darfur. The program also features an interview with Fauzia Abbas about the role of women Network in Elfasher in building women’s capacity.

  • Yala Nebni Darfur, 02 May 2017: Girl child education dictated by culture or Poverty?

    This program features a discussion titled “Girl child education dictated by culture or Poverty?” in Elgenina West Darfur, the debate was organized by UNAMID Communications and Public Information Section in collaboration with Gender Advisory Unit and the West Darfur Ministry of Education, in El-Geneina. 

  • Voice of Children, 01 May 2017: role of community to protect children from Violence.

    This program features the importance of home backyards for child’s welfare. The program also features graduation of Melleit kindergarten schools celebration, beside a feature on the children’s innovation in Al Salaam IDPs Camp, and a feature on the role of community to protect children from Violence. 

  • Voice of Children, 31 March 2017: Prevent child exploitation in Darfur.

    This program features how to prevent child exploitation, invest in education, but also in raising awareness among children and adults. And because poverty is the main reason for child exploitation, and also ways to offer parents the opportunity to increase their incomes via savings and credit groups. Education to both children and adults to prevent child exploitation. Poverty is the main cause of child exploitation which is why parents should get the opportunity to increase their income to protect their children.

  • Yala Nebni Darfur, 30 April 2017: Importance of personal hygiene techniques in public health.

    This program features maintaining personal hygiene. Personal hygiene is necessary for many reasons; personal, social, health, psychological or simply as a way of life. Keeping a good standard of hygiene helps to prevent the development and spread of infections, illnesses and bad odors. Body image influences self-esteem, confidence and motivation. Those who already have low self-esteem and especially those with depression often neglect personal hygiene which perpetuates the problem of poor body image.

  • Yala Nebni Darfur, 29 April 2017: Solution to the root causes of conflicts between wives and their husbands in Nyala South Darfur Community

    This program features a dissection about the root causes of problems between wives and their husbands in Nyala South Darfur. You are always the victim. You never do anything wrong, and your spouse is always doing things on purpose, obviously. He/she is completely insensitive, never takes you into consideration and probably even forgets that you exist. If husbands truly cannot see any of their own faults or imperfections and blame the other person for all that goes wrong, you are probably driving your spouse to divorce.

  • Voice of Children, 28 April 2017-repeat of 24th: Every child has the right to live, and to do so with a permanent family.

    This program features a discussion with Amira Iz-Aldeen Abdurrahman and Amani Abdurrahman, children from Zamzam camp for internally displaced persons, about the importance of mothers in children’s lives. Every child has the right to live, and to do so with a permanent family. There are millions of children in the world without the care of a family. They are alone, invisible and unheard. They are being physically, mentally and emotionally damaged.

  • Yala Nebni Darfur, 27 April 2017: The biggest animal market in west Darfur.

    This program features a report on Mornei Animal Export Market, as the biggest animal market in west Darfur. It also sets out to identify how the livestock trade can be supported in order to better sustain the livelihoods of different groups in Darfur, both while the conflict continues and in the longer term. To support the eventual recovery of Darfur’s economy. It is estimated that Darfur’s livestock account for between one-quarter and one-third of Sudan’s livestock resources post-secession of the South Sudan.

  • Yala Nebni Darfur, 26 April 2017: Building peace in Darfur.

    This program features an interview with Deputy of Humanitarian Aid Commission for North Darfur, Adam Suleiman, about the support provided by International Organizations to IDPs in Darfur. This program also features how to protect persons from violence during police operations in Darfur. 

  • Yala Nebni Darfur, 25 April 2017: HIV/AIDS Peer Educators.

    This program features Peer Educators (are) a group of students trained on HIV/AIDS related issues and are given skills to facilitate workshops or dialogues and organize awareness campaigns on campus. The Peer Education Programme by UNAMID, contributes towards the promotion of healthy practices and behavioral change through peer education by providing educational sessions to residence of the IDPs camps through participatory and interactive methodology to educate people on HIV/AIDS.

    Peer Educators also assist in all HIV/AIDS campaigns organized by UNAMID HIV/AIDS Unit throughout Darfur. The programme creates a platform for people to talk about HIV related issue on campus, to reduce the stigma attached to HIV/AIDS, to contribute (to) HIV prevention and create a safe space for people living with HIV on campus.
