UNAMID Radio Unit has been broadcasting its radio programmes around Darfur since July 2011.Two of its flagship programmes are the Voice of Children; a weekly magazine style radio programme that is produced and presented by children aged 9 to 15 years old, and Yala Nebni Darfur (Lets Build Darfur); one-hour-magazine style radio programme focusing on themes related to UNAMID mandate. Both of these radio programmes are broadcast on radio Al Salaam 98.0 FM in Khartoum and 7.2MHz, 41 Meter Band SW in Darfur every day from 08:30 to 09:30 and from 14:00 to 15:00.

The radio unit has recently launched its new magazine programme, UNAMID Today, a 30 minute radio programme that highlights the Mission’s activities and human interest stories in Darfur. The programme is broadcast  on El Fasher radio, 95 FM and 801 AM every day from 9:30 to 10:00. 

The radio programmes are broadcast in Arabic.

  • Yala Nebni Darfur,10 May 2016: The danger of female circumcision to women’s health

    Today’s programme features topic such as female circumcision and its adverse impact on the health of Darfuri women and income generating activities undertaken by women in Kabkabya. 

  • UNAMID TODAY, 9 May 2016: Tribal dances of Darfur

    This is a programme that highlights, among other topics, the role played by tribal dances in preserving the culture and traditions of the people of Darfur through  successive generations. Darfur is endowed with a multitude of tribal dances for any occasion. These dances have served as a reservoir of cultural and traditional norms.

  • Voice Of Children,09 May 2016: Folkloric tales and children development

    Today’s programme features about folkloric tales from oral tradition that are often told by grandmothers in Darfur to their grandchildren. Fatima Adam from Al Salaam IDP Camp is featured in today’s programme who tells tales that she has inherited from her grandmother. Another part of the programme shows about the importance of making friends amongst youth and how to engage with them.

  • UNAMID TODAY, 8 May 2016: A special story of woman of Darfur

    In this programme you will hear how Darfuri women,  due to sheer strength of their characters, they battle against all the odds and succeed in various fields. Often denied a chance to education due to early marriage,  some Darfuri women have striven and ended up with education, nevertheless all  the challenges.  The programme highlights the story of Haram Abdalla. Married off at the age of ten, Haram, however, decided to continue with education even though she had to breastfeed and perform her usual house chores. Finally she graduated with BA honours in English. She is now a teachers of English in one of Darfuri schools.

  • Yala Nebni Darfur,08 May 2016: International Water Day Celebration

    Today’s programme features UNAMID’s activities in improving water resources in Darfur, it is part of the International Water Day Celebration. The theme of this year’s celebration is Water and Jobs that highlights how water and jobs have the power to peoples’ lives as it is essential to human survival, the environment, and the global economy. This programme also features the Darfur Internal Dialogue and Consultation (DIDC) Office activities in facilitating peace in Badia, West Darfur, in partnership with UNAMID Civil Affairs Unit.

  • Yala Nebni Darfur,07 May 2016:The importance of persevering tradition

    Today’s programme features about traditional method in Darfur in keeping and preserving foods for guests. A method that has been traditionally handed over from one generation to another. Also in this programme, an interview with Altayeb Abakar, the King of Fur tribe in Kabkabiya, about strengthening social fabric amongst Darfur tribes through marriage.

    Today’s programme features about cultural diversity in Darfur and its role in peace making amongst Darfuri tribes and the role of Cultural Foundation library in El-Fasher in spreading cultural awareness in Darfur.

  • Yala Nebni Darfur,04 May 2016: Peaceful coexistence amongst returnees in Darfur

    Today’s programme features about peaceful coexistence between returnee farmers and herders of domestic animals who have voluntarily returned to their village in Tee man village in South Darfur. Their return has been facilitated by the youth of the village in partnership with UNAMID Civil Affairs unit. Also in the programme, an interview with Aziza Hamid, a project manager of Alwaten Organization for Reconstruction and Development about its school project in Duma, South Darfur

  • UNAMID TODAY, 1 October 2016: An interview with pediatrician

    In today’s programme you will hear an interview with Dr. Shafie Bakr, pediatrician in El Fasher, who talks about polio and polio prevention.
