UNAMID Radio Unit has been broadcasting its radio programmes around Darfur since July 2011.Two of its flagship programmes are the Voice of Children; a weekly magazine style radio programme that is produced and presented by children aged 9 to 15 years old, and Yala Nebni Darfur (Lets Build Darfur); one-hour-magazine style radio programme focusing on themes related to UNAMID mandate. Both of these radio programmes are broadcast on radio Al Salaam 98.0 FM in Khartoum and 7.2MHz, 41 Meter Band SW in Darfur every day from 08:30 to 09:30 and from 14:00 to 15:00.

The radio unit has recently launched its new magazine programme, UNAMID Today, a 30 minute radio programme that highlights the Mission’s activities and human interest stories in Darfur. The programme is broadcast  on El Fasher radio, 95 FM and 801 AM every day from 9:30 to 10:00. 

The radio programmes are broadcast in Arabic.

  • Yala Nebni Darfur, 23 April 2017: Economic, diverse income-generating opportunities

    This program features most of Darfur camps for internally-displaced persons are urban settlements in all but name. The most striking impact of the last seven years has been to the change from being overwhelmingly scattered rural villages and hamlets to huge extended cities. People in the camps have diverse income-generating opportunities available for the famously entrepreneurial Darfurian youth. The IDP camps have become a pillar of livelihoods in Darfur, so that many households locate some family members in IDP camps while retaining a rural or urban livelihood base elsewhere.

  • Yala Nebni Darfur, 22 April 2017: Home Remedies for Simple Eye Problems.

    This program features an interview with Dr. Abdul Allah, from Makah Eye Hospital in Nyala about home based solutions to prevent eye disease. Many eye problems require the medical knowledge that an ophthalmologist has from years of clinical and surgical training. But there are eye problems that you can treat safely at home, as long as they are relatively simple. Here are a few problems that can respond to home treatment, with some tips on home remedies. 

  • Voice of Children, 21 April 2017-repeat of 17th: Protection of IDP children in Darfur.

    This program features an interview with Hawa Ali, a teacher from Alnahda Girls School in EL-Fasher, about good relations among children. It also features a day in the lives of Hawa Ahmed Jali and Amira Iz- Eldeen, two children from Al-salaam camp in North Darfur. Faced with the reality of their lives as Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs), their specific protection cannot be met without provision of key services.

  • Yala Nebni Darfur, 20 April 2017: The role of livestock in Darfur economy.

    This program features Livestock and hand-made products of leather bags and shoes, from local materials, in Elgenina. Livestock is one of Darfur’s main economic assets and a central component of rural livelihoods. It is estimated that the region accounts for one-quarter to one-third of Sudan’s livestock production. The greater Darfur region has long been a major exporter of camels, cattle, and sheep, while goats are mostly traded and consumed locally.

  • Yala Nebni Darfur, 19 April 2017: Ramadan Donkus Suleiman, a young business man from Nyala.

    This program features an interview with Ramadan Donkus Suleiman, a young business man from Nyala, about how he started his business. The program also features an interview with Khadija Adam Ahmed Ibrahim, clothes designer from AL-Salaam IDP camp in Elfasher, about the products she makes and where she learnt clothes designing. 

  • Yala Nebni Darfur, 18 April 2017: IDPs small economic activities in Shangil Tobey area.

    This program features an interview with Ramadan Dunks Suleiman, a young businessman from Nyala, about how he started his business, and a feature about IDPs small economic activities in Shangil Tobey area north Darfur. The program also features another interview with Khadija Adam Ahmed Ibrahim, clothes designer from AL-Salaam IDP camp in Elfasher, about the products she makes and where she did learn clothes designing. 

  • Voice of Children, 17 April 2017: Protection of IDP children in Darfur.

  • Yala Nebni Darfur, 16 April 2017: Role of religious leaders in the promotion of peace in Darfur.

    This program features the construction of a Health Center for HIV/AIDS voluntary testing and psychological counseling in El-Salam IDPs Camp, constructed by Sudan National Aid Program of North Darfur in collaboration with UNAMID HIV/AIDS Unit. The program further features the role of religious leaders in the promotion of peace in North Darfur, a training workshop organized by High Council of Religious Leaders in collaboration with UNAMID. 

  • Yala Nebni Darfur, 15 April 2017: Kunjara village North Darfur.

    This program features an interview with Sheikh Hassan Yagoub, from Kunjara village, about the status of women rights in his community. The program further features an interview with Mona Ahmed, Director of Jaber Foundation at Kunjara village, about the Association’s assistance and support to the community in the area.

  • Voice of Children, 14 April 2017-repeat of 10: children and the elderly benefit from close relationships.

    This program features how children in Zamzam Camp should relate to their elders. Old people need, a purpose and to feel that somebody needs them, that they can make a difference. Kids and teens get hope from hearing about victories, adventures and even problems. The old get hope, too. It alleviates some of their worries about where this world is going.
