UNAMID Radio Unit has been broadcasting its radio programmes around Darfur since July 2011.Two of its flagship programmes are the Voice of Children; a weekly magazine style radio programme that is produced and presented by children aged 9 to 15 years old, and Yala Nebni Darfur (Lets Build Darfur); one-hour-magazine style radio programme focusing on themes related to UNAMID mandate. Both of these radio programmes are broadcast on radio Al Salaam 98.0 FM in Khartoum and 7.2MHz, 41 Meter Band SW in Darfur every day from 08:30 to 09:30 and from 14:00 to 15:00.

The radio unit has recently launched its new magazine programme, UNAMID Today, a 30 minute radio programme that highlights the Mission’s activities and human interest stories in Darfur. The programme is broadcast  on El Fasher radio, 95 FM and 801 AM every day from 9:30 to 10:00. 

The radio programmes are broadcast in Arabic.

  • Yala Nebni Darfur, 04 March 2017: Risks The risks in Self-medication.

    This program highlights the risks of using medicine without consulting a doctor. This practice which is common among the people of Darfur has serious implications for human health as it could lead to death.   

  • Voice of Children, 03 March 2017: “We need education.” Voice raised by children in Abu-Shook IDPs Camp in North Darfur.

    “We need education” program features a report on the voice raised by children in Abu-Shook IDPs Camp in North Darfur. It also features Haessnaa Ahmed, a child from Abu-Shook Camp, who calls for better education environment at schools in her IDP Camp in El Fasher. Furthermore, the program features a discussion on the life of children in Darfur Internally Displaced Camps, Zamzam Camp in El-Fasher as an example IDPs camp.

  • Yala Nebni Darfur, 02 March 2017: The risks in Self-medication.

    This program features the risks of using medicines without consulting a doctor. Many people in South Darfur State and other places do not consult a doctor on such illnesses as headache and cough. Instead, they go directly to purchase medicine from the pharmacy or even unlicensed roadside shops. The program features an interview with Dr. Babeker Tijani, a UNICEF Staff, on the support provided by UNICEF in the field of child nutrition in South Darfur State. The program also features a report on the importance of laboratory test to diagnose diseases.

    This programme features the effective ways to raise Gender based violence awareness amongst South Darfur community

  • Yala Nebni Darfur, 01 March 2017: The Role of Theater in peace building in Darfur.

    This program features a discussion with members of Alma-shish Artistic Group on the effective ways to raise awareness on issues of gender based violence in South Darfur. The program also features an interview with Adam Ismail Adam, UNAMID’s Civil Affairs Officer from Kabkabya Team Site Office, on the work of UNAMID in the area of Education in Kabkabya Locality.  In addition, there was an interview with Yahiya Adam, a designer, on the importance of theater in building peace in Darfur.

  • Yala Nebni Darfur, 28 February 2017: Road Safety Campaign in Darfur

    Today’s programme features UNAMID backed road safety campaign in collaboration with local traffic police of Darfur. In this programme you will also listen to an interview with Fatima Kanjom, women leader from Nyala, about women’s role in peacemaking process in South Darfur.

  • Voice of Children, 27 February 2017: Cultural stories told by grandmothers in Darfur. –repeat

    This program features cultural stories told by grandmothers in Darfur. The fairy tales and cultural stories that the grandmother tells her grandchildren have a great impact on the upbringing of these children, and preserves the cultural heritage of Darfur. The program also feature a discussion about how do you choose your friend and how do children engage with our friends and share their advice.

  • Yala Nebni Darfur, 26 February 2017: An interview with UNAMID Deputy Commissioner of Humanitarian Affairs.

    Today’s programme, features an interview with Deputy Commissioner for Humanitarian Affairs, Adam Suleiman, about the role of the Commission in coordination between UNAMID and the international organizations and the state government in order to facilitate the access of humanitarian aid to displaced people in various states of Darfur.

  • Yala Nebni Darfur, 25 February 2017: Women activities.

    This program features a report on family meetings and their impact on women's intellectual and social developments. It also highlights a feature on Umalhassan Ahmed Mahmoud Khamis, a member of Darfur women -association Alhabl - Almateen a charity organization in Abu shouk camp, which teaches displaced women how to read and write.

    This program features cultural stories told by grandmothers in Darfur.
