    Umm Baru—Having led the operation which succeeded in the return of a UNAMID patrol which had been blocked by rebel forces for two days in northwestern Darfur, the Force Commander of the African Union-United Nations Mission in Darfur flew to the region today to pay tribute to his troops.
  • 21 Feb 12 - Full UNAMID peacekeeping patrol returns to home base

    El Fasher, 21 February 2012 – After a show of force and round-the-clock negotiations, the entire 55-person peacekeeping patrol of the African Union-United Nations Mission in Darfur, which had been blockaded in northwestern Darfur by armed rebels for nearly two days, was en route to its home base in Umm Baru this afternoon.

    15 Feb 2012 - Kuma Garadayt, 15 February 2012 - With the slaying of goats, the people of Kuma Garadyat today expressed their commitment to work with the African Union-United Nations Mission in Darfur on nine projects intended to trigger the restoration of normality to a string of 12 villages in North Darfur which four years ago were devastated by conflict.  
  • 15 Feb 2012 -Doha Document dissemination ongoing in four Darfur states
    15 Feb 2012 - 15 February 2012- Dissemination activities for the Doha Document for Peace in Darfur (DDPD) started this week among the communities in West and South Darfur. The exercise, which is also ongoing on Central and North Darfur, is organized by the Civil Society Follow-up Mechanism, a group of community representatives created to liaise with the civil society organizations on the Doha peace process, and supported logistically and technically by UNAMID.

  • 07 Feb 12 - Dissemination workshops of the Doha Document start in Central Darfur

    07 February 2012 - A series of workshops for the dissemination of the Doha Document for Peace in Darfur (DDPD) began today in Zalingie, the capital of the new Central Darfur state. The exercise is being led by the parties to the DDPD, the Government of Sudan and the Liberation and Justice Movement, and supported logistically by UNAMID.
  • 07 Feb 12 - UNAMID to destroy unexploded ordnance in South Darfur

    07 February 2012 - UNAMID peacekeepers based in Khor Abeche, South Darfur, confirmed yesterday the presence of three unexploded ordnance (UXOs) in the vicinity. The Mission team marked the UXOs for a disposal operation that will be conducted shortly. On 29 January, a eight-year boy was injured in the same locality with playing with an UXO.

    06 Feb 2012 - 06 February 2012 - Under the theme “Together for Peace and Development in Darfur,” UNAMID supported the Al Taylia Sports Club in celebrating the Club's Golden Jubilee this past weekend in El Fasher, North Darfur.
