24 August 2011 - UNAMID has dispatched a patrol team to the Hamadiya camp for Internally Displaced Persons (IDP) camp in West Darfur following the killing of a Sheikh (local leader).

The sheikh was reportedly killed on August 20 in circumstances that are still unclear. A UNAMID patrol team was dispatched to the camp, which is located near Zalingei, on verification mission in the area. It has been in contact with local leaders, the family of the deceased and police to determine exactly what happened.

The security situation in the camp is calm and local police are investigating the incident. The Mission’s military have increased patrols in the area and UNAMID Civil Affairs officials are working with camp leaders to resolve any issues.
