24 Aug 11 - Sudanese government committee gears for dissemination of DDPD document

24 August 2011 - The Sudanese Government’s Security Arrangement Committee paid a courtesy call on UNAMID in Nyala, South Darfur, as it prepares for the dissemination of the Doha Document for Peace in Darfur (DDPD).

Led by Police Lt. Gen. Altahir Almajzoub Altahir, the delegation briefed the Mission on the Government’s decision to
disseminate the security arrangements chapter of the DDPD, signed between the Government of Sudan and the Liberation and Justice Movement (LJM) in the Qatari capital on July 14.

Dissemination of the document is a key part of creating an enabling environment for implementation of the agreement.

Lt. Gen Altahir said arrangements for the work of the Ceasefire Commission (CFC) Committee in Nyala had taken shape, adding that a list of Government participants had been presented to the Mission.

He said UNAMID’s functions were critical in facilitating the effective and efficient implementation of the Security
Arrangements and Verification of Movements as stipulated in the agreement.

Senior Administrative Officer, Mr. Hassan Yusuf Mohamoud, representing UNAMID’s Head of Office, pledged that the Mission would play its role assigned to it within the context of its mandate. He said the government’s plans represented a step forward in the implementation of the DDPD.
