16 Mar 11 - UNAMID Human Rights to investigate rape allegations

16 March 2011 - A UNAMID Human Rights team today set out to the village of Amar Jadeed in the Menawashi locality of South Darfur, to investigate recent allegations of widespread rape. Their findings will be communicated to the Mission upon their return.

UNAMID’s Gender Advisory Unit is currently organizing a series of workshops for community leaders and police officers in South and West Darfur on the impacts of sexual and gender-based violence and on the procedures for reporting cases and caring for victims. The first is planned to take place on 18 March in Zalingei, West Darfur.
