13 April 11 - UNAMID works for the release of Kalma hostages

13 April 2011 - UNAMID, OCHA and camp leaders have successfully mediated the release of twelve Sudanese aid workers who were taken hostage by a youth group at Kalma Internally Displaced Persons (IDP) camp in South Darfur.

The aid workers had been taken on 11 April in retaliation for the arrests of an IDP who worked for a national NGO by security officials on 09 April. Negotiations have been fruitful and the hostages are expected to be released later today. The workers had been conducting a vaccination campaign in the camp. Other humanitarian groups suspended their operations in Kalma since the incident.
