Second attack on South Darfur village in past 24 hours

 

El Fasher, 11 December 2010 – UNAMID reports that a ground attack was carried out today at approximately 11:00hrs by Sudanese Armed Forces on Khor Abeche, a village in South Darfur, located 80km northeast of Nyala.

The incident marked the second of its kind in the locality, known to have supporters of the armed movement, Sudan Liberation Army / Minni Minawi, in the past 24 hours.

The attack resulted in five confirmed injured civilians and several burning houses. The Mission’s team site dispatched fire trucks to put out the fires, provided medical care to the casualties, and is patrolling the village.

The injured are currently at UNAMID's level I clinic in Khor Abeche. As many as three of the wounded are listed in critical condition and will be evacuated to better medical facilities.

UNAMID Joint Special Representative Ibrahim Gamabari demarched the government at the highest level for the attacks on the village to cease.
