10 March 2011 - In an effort to ease congestion at El Fasher’s airport, UNAMID today inaugurated a new terminal to better accommodate passengers. The event was presided over by UNAMID Joint Special Representative Ibrahim Gambari, as well as senior Government and Mission officials.

The facility is one of the many ways in which the Mission has contributed to Darfur’s aviation sector. To date, UNAMID has invested in upgrades that include improvements to runways, taxiways and aprons; the installation of visual and navigational aids; the construction of security fences; and the provision of fire trucks and runway cleaning equipment.
