07 July 2011 - UNAMID JSR officially opens Mission hospital in North Darfur

07 July 2011 - UNAMID Joint Special Representative (JSR) Ibrahim Gambari today opened a level II hospital built and operated by the Mongolian contingent in Kabkabiya, North Darfur.

This is the first Mongolian hospital to be built outside of Mongolia, or on a UN peace operation. The hospital is intended to serve UN personnel in the region but since it began operation in March, forty per cent of its patients have been local Darfuris. It provides emergency care, dental services, pharmaceutical services and other forms of treatment.

“This hospital contributes to the stability of the area because it is not only for UNAMID staff, but it will also serve the community at no cost,” said JSR Gambari.

A total of 68 Mongolian troops are currently serving in UNAMID.
