07 July 11 - Platform on planning and budgeting begins in West Darfur

07 July 2011 - UNAMID organized a five day session for local governmental authorities, representatives from the transitional Darfur regional authority, civil society representatives and non-governmental organizations to facilitate an effective and inclusive discussion that will focus on dialogue on planning and budgeting processes.

The session is aimed at fostering responsible leadership among local government and civil society to enhance prospects of effective and inclusive governance at the local level. The workshop will also serve as a platform to determine some strategies to promote effective and inclusive governance in their locality through proper planning and budget allocation to ensure distribution of resources for development in their communities.

The dialogue will also offer an opportunity for the stakeholders to share ideas on the best practical way of taking part in building effective and inclusive governance for peace, conflict resolution, and development in Darfur through planning and budgeting. It will also serve as a platform for the participants to determine an inclusive participatory mechanism for how best they can put their collective ideas together.
