05 Aug 10 - Security situation update

UNAMID forces continue to conduct intensified patrols in Kalma Internally Displaced Persons (IDP) camp in South Darfur, where the situation remains tense following violence over the weekend. Sporadic shooting was heard yesterday evening.

Aid groups still await permission to enter the camp. Many of the IDPs around the UNAMID Community Policing Centre were exposed to heavy rainfall last night, increasing fears of health risks.

Meanwhile, Government authorities have today lifted restrictions on UN flights to Ed Daein, Muhejeria and Sheria, South Darfur, which have been in place since June.
